Cheer Hosting Tryouts

Cheer will be hosting tryouts with their first prep clinic on Jan 31, 2022 in the small gym. The first prep clinic will be after school at 4:30 p.m.

“[It’s] a really fun experience and I think everyone should feel a part of a group,” senior cheerleader Alejandra Aviles said.

Being a part of the cheer team includes cheering at football games, basketball games and participating in competitions during the second semester.

“The girls look forward to our UIL competitions,” Head Cheer Coach Heather Jones said.

Aviles says that joining the cheer team is a great way to help you grow as an individual especially as it forces students to  put  themselves  out there.

“[Being on the cheer team] has definitely made me more confident,” Aviles said.

Students can try out without any prior experience. The prep clinics are meant to help teach some of the basic cheer jumps and motions.

“We’re looking for girls or boys who are hard workers and are able to learn and want to get better,”  Assistant Coach Morgan Elledge said.

The cheer team is also looking for yell leaders, which is traditionally a male position on the cheer team.

“A yell leader would have to be just like the cheerleaders; outgoing and have school spirit,” Jones said.
