Since he was a kid, TCHS Senior Trey Rangel has been obsessed with baseball, dedicating countless hours to perfecting his skills, learning the game, and pushing himself to improve with every practice.
Behind every accomplishment of Trey stands his father, cheering him on – especially at the early stages of Trey’s career.
“That’s my little dude. [As a kid], he’s throwing 83, and I’m like, ‘what?’ And that’s when we kind of realized that he threw a little bit harder, a little bit better than some of the other kids. And then he grew seven eight inches, and all of a sudden he’s throwing 90 miles an hour as a freshman.” Rudy Rangel, TCHS athletic director, said.
Although his playing abilities are remarkable, Junior Trey Rangel, the #1 pitcher in the 2026 class has much more to him than most people realize.
“It’s a blessing that he’s really good at baseball, but I think that goal of him being just a good human is what’s going to help and be better at baseball.” Rudy Rangel said.
Rangel has always supported his son, but he has other goals for him off of the field.
“My goal is non sports related. My goal is for him to be just a good dude and be a good human and [for him to], just be a very humble kid.” Rudy Rangel says.
The junior pitcher’s teammates have grown fond of Trey both on and off the field.
“He’s great, he’s a good student. He’s smart and respectful.” Rojas says.
The #1 pitchers dad is a role model for and an inspiration for him.
“I want to be my own person [but my dad’s] work ethic is something I try to mirror. He’s just someone I’ve always looked up to, ever since I was young.” Trey Rangel says.
Rudy Rangel gives us a view on how good teammates can make a great player.
“He does a lot for those guys, and they do a lot for him.” says Rudy Rangel. “And I think the motivation he has to perform for them helps them want to make sure they show out for everybody, and so that they’re a huge deal to him.”
Rojas talks about how Trey Rangel is outside the field.
“He’s a very supportive friend, he’s really funny, you can go to him with anything, and he’ll give you honest opinions.” Rojas says “He’s a goofball. He’s really talkative, so nothing’s awkward with him.”
Trey Rangel talks about what he wants for the future.
“That’s a next year decision, but I want to go to college. I would like the college experience and to play college baseball and go try to win a College World Series.” says Trey Rangel.
