Last night, LISD’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to retire TCHS feeder elementary school B.B.Owen along with rezoning Memorial. Low enrollment and inadequate finances are the root cause of the school closures and adjustments.
Additionally, Creekside, Garden Ridge, Highland Village, and Polser elementary schools will also close. Bluebonnet, Creek Valley, Downing, Lakeland, Lewisville ES and Degan boundaries have received approval for rezoning.
LISD states the closure in response to the budget challenges and the state legislature’s failing to update school funding to accommodate inflation.
Board members from LISD encouraged the audience by saying ‘The fight is not over’ and ’This continues in Austin’ as the new legislative session to set begin to January
LISD will communicate directly to staff members at the impacted campuses about the next steps on December 16th where students will rezone/attend to Peters Colony, Ethridge, Camey, Morning side or Memorial elementary school to continue their education.

An outdoor workout park for mostly adults and older teens should be put in place of B.B Owen and an extension of the walking trail. My twins went there and loved the teachers and classes. They are graduating in June from High School. The existing playground should be kept in place for families and little children. Like the Legends I notice has a park for adults to workout in and it’s free or at least the people there may pay homeowners association fees.
