TC Drumline Wins Competition
The TC drumline won first place at the 31st Annual Plano Drumline Competition. The competition took place on Sept. 24 at John Clark Stadium in Plano, Texas.
The competition was only for drumline members. The high school drumline prepared for competition by practicing the designated songs many times.
The songs that were performed were “The Moldau,” “Mysterious Mountain,” “Halo,” and “Hallelujah.” During the competition, six other schools competed against The Colony’s drumline in A Division 1.
The band directors were very satisfied with the outcome of the competition.
“These kids work extremely hard and often give up their free time and their weekends to make all of this happen,” Director of Percussion James Hopkins said. “It’s always a good feeling to win anything, so I felt really good and proud of the kids for what they achieved.”
Head Band Director Michael Larkin was proud of the students because they have put in many hours before and after school for this performance.
“I thought they performed well, they were great performers, very mature,” Larkin said. “After finding out we won first place, it was a great feeling, It validates the hard work we were putting onto them.”
The drumline members were surprised that they won first place out of all the schools in their division.
“I didn’t think we would win, well I wasn’t quite sure,” percussionist Jackson Merrill said. “Winning first place was pretty exciting, that means all the hard work we put in finally paid off.”
